THE GUAÍBA RIVER WATERFRONT

The 72-km coastline, cut by the Guaíba River waters, is one of Porto Alegre's greatest attractions. Even though the Guaíba is officially described as a lake, most people call it “Rio Guaíba”, or Guaíba River.

Recently inaugurated, the Moacyr Scliar Waterfront Park (“Parque da Orla Moacyr Scliar”), designed by the famous architect Jaime Lerner, is the stretch between the Gasômetro Power Plant (“Usina do Gasômetro”) and the Cuias Roundabout (“Rótula das Cuias”).  By the way, "cuia" is the name given to the recipient used to drink the traditional regional  herb tea, called "chimarrão".

The remodeled area was inaugurated in 2018 and is 1.3 kilometers long.

It has a bike path, lookouts, sports courts, anchorage for tourist boats, four bars and a panoramic restaurant. It is one of the main leisure spots in the city, reaching 60 thousand people in a single weekend.

It is the ideal destination if you want to enjoy the famous sunset of Porto Alegre

Next to the Moacyr Scliar Park, you can enjoy other beautiful areas such as the Pontal Park, the Marinha do Brasil Park, the Public Docks of Usina do Gasômetro, the Iberê Camargo Foundation and nautical clubs.

Another interesting way to enjoy the waterfront are the tourist boats, which can ride you along the waters of the Guaiba River. On board of these boats you will have one of the most beautiful views of Porto Alegre, in particular the large yellow warehouses of Cais Mauá (Mauá Docks), which highlight the city's port origin.

At the moment, more revitalization work is taking place: the stretch 3 of the Guaíba Waterfront, which comprises the area from the mouth of the “Arroio Dilúvio”, on Avenida Ipiranga, up to the beginning of the “Gigante Park”, where one the two famous football teams of the city, Sport Club Internacional and its home, the beautiful “Beira-Rio Stadium”, are located.

The project includes sports courts, locker rooms and the largest skate park in Latin America, certified by the Brazilian Skate Confederation and the Brazilian Olympic Committee. It will also provide car parking areas and three bars, identical to those already in operation on stretch 1, among other improvements.
